Yuya Yoshimatsuの“Lines and Colors”と称された作品群は、キャンバス上に単色の線が横に走ることから始まり、さまざまな色の線が層を作る過程を経て、キャンバスを埋め尽くし完成します。線を引く時、彼は生活や活動の中で出会った大切な人たちを思い浮かべながら筆を走らせるといいます。これまでコレクティブとしての音楽活動やアパレル制作など、自分だけでは無く他者との関係性を築きながら続けてきた表現活動は、一人で行う絵画制作にも影響しているように思えます。画面上で隣り合うそれぞれの線は、彼を取り巻く他者とその関係を客観的に描いているようであり、完成した一面は、集団の中でのYuya Yoshimatsu自身を描き表しているようです。
今回のタイトルである”Small World”は、キャンバスという小さな世界に彼自身と彼を形成した他者が共存した”小さな世界”を比喩しているようにも思えます。本展示では、自身初となる４メートルを超える大型キャンバスを含め、新作を中心に発表しています。ぜひご観覧くださいませ。
The series known as "Lines and Colors" by Yuya Yoshimatsu begins with monochromatic lines running horizontally across the canvas, gradually building layers of various colored lines until the canvas is completely filled. It is said that when he draws these lines, he envisions the cherished individuals he has encountered in his life and activities. The expressive activities he has continued, such as collective music projects and apparel creation, involving relationships with others, seem to influence his solo painting endeavors. The lines juxtaposed on the canvas appear to objectively depict him surrounded by others and their relationships, while the completed surface seems to portray Yuya Yoshimatsu himself within the collective. The title of this exhibition, "Small World," also seems to metaphorically refer to a "small world" where he and the others who have shaped him coexist within the canvas. In this exhibition, including his first-ever large canvas exceeding four meters, he presents new works predominantly. Please do come and enjoy the exhibition.

福岡を拠点とし、油画制作を中心に国内外で活動するアーティスト。
また、同拠点の総合コレクティブCCS records.に所属しており、楽曲制作、デザイン提供、アートディレクションなどの油画制作以外では pen public名義で活動している。

今回で8回目、そして国内では最後となる巡回展The Violet Brainedを一か所目の福岡はOVERGROUNDにて開催する。
"Small World"と題された今回の個展では、現在彼が継続的に行なっている"Lines and Colors"シリーズの作品が展示される。
今回描かれた作品群は、物体が目に映り、脳に行き届くそれより以前の、物体に光が当たるまでの時間とその光自体が持つ色を描いている。
これらの"光"は、これまでの制作テーマの一つである"彼の次元から見た風景"を照らす"光の色"であり、その光こそが"彼が照らす彼自身への光の色"である。
現在継続的に制作している"Lines and Colors"シリーズは、彼自身の日常を投影した景色"無意識に羅列された色を帯びた線"によって生じる必然性と偶発性を追求した実験的創作物である。
彼自身が制作する過程の"支持体へ絵の具を線状に載せる"という行為で生じる必然性と
彼自身が制作後に数える"線の数の合計数がタイトルになる"という、作家本人と見る者が平等に知り得る数字(タイトル)の偶発性が生じる。
色彩と形状、それらが生み出すタイトルまでが作家本人と君の全ての作品である。

He is an artist active both domestically and internationally and he is also a member of the general collective CCS records in Fukuoka, and he is active under the name pen public when he's making other works.
The "Lines and Colors" series that he is currently producing is an experimental creation that pursues the necessity and contingency created by "unconsciously arranged colored lines" that are a projection of his own daily life. It is a thing.
He considers the inevitability that arises from the act of ``placing paint in a linear manner on canvas'' in his own production process.
The title is the total number of lines that he counts after painted it, creating a contingency of numbers (titles) that are equally known to both the artist and the viewer.
The colors and shapes, even the titles they create, are the works of both the artist and you.
何のために描いてるのか
何を伝えたくて描いてるのか
わかんない
でも描いてる時が日常で一番気持ちよくて、
一番のmeditationてのはわかる
むしろ日常じゃない感じ
その時のおれが一番嘘偽りがなくて、その時が一番心地良い
誰でもない自分の脳みその中で暴れ狂う感覚になる
寝ずに絵のことしか考えられなくなる
その脳みそに導いてくれる人がいる
その脳みそに光を照らしてくれる人がいる
その脳みそを美しいと君は言う
おれは君を照らす光を描く

I'm not sure why I paint or what I want to convey through my art.
But I do know that the act of painting is the most enjoyable part of my daily life, the ultimate form of meditation, even though it feels unlike everyday life.
During those moments, I feel the most genuine, the most comfortable.
It's like a sensation of my own brain raging inside, unable to think about anything other than art, even losing sleep over it.
There are people who guide me to that state of mind, who shed light on my brain, who you would call beautiful.
I paint the light that illuminates you.
I paint the light that illuminates me and you.
