Toru HARADAは絵画や彫刻などを軸に、作品を制作しています。作家の作品には個性的な未知の生物（キメラ）がモチーフとしてたびたび出現します。それらは、作家がこれまで海外での居住経験や、多様な文化や民族と出会った海外生活での経験を基に得た価値観であり、目に見えないものにも魂が宿るというアニミズムの思想を色濃く反映されています。つなぎ合わせた廃棄物や、絵の具が定着したキャンバスたちにも、作家の手作業によって魂が吹き込まれ生物たちが存在しているようです。素材選びなどからさまざまなアプローチで制作された作品は、モチーフの個性を浮き彫りにすると同時に、マテリアルの質感や違いを観て楽しむことができます。大作を含めた今展示会をぜひお楽しみください。
Toru HARADA creates works centered around painting and sculpture. His pieces often feature unique, unknown creatures (chimeras) as motifs.
These creatures reflect the artist's values, shaped by his experiences living abroad, encountering diverse cultures and ethnicities. His work strongly embodies animism—the belief that even invisible things possess a soul. Discarded materials, as well as canvases covered with paint, are given life through the artist's craftsmanship, as if the creatures truly exist.
The works, created with a variety of approaches based on material selection, not only highlight the individuality of the motifs but also allow viewers to appreciate the textures and contrasts of the materials. Please enjoy this exhibition, which includes large-scale pieces.
原田とおる
1980年生まれ、福岡出身。中国に渡りランドスケープデザイン〜彫刻家アシスタントなどの経験を経て独立。海外生活での多様文化との出会いや地域体験をプロセスとしながら作品を制作。帰国後、文化財施設や空き家を活用したプロジェクトなどを開催するなど、その土地で生まれる意識や発想をテーマに様々なフォームで作品を発表。
Born in 1980 in Fukuoka, Japan. After working in China as a landscape designer and sculptor's assistant, he became independent. He creates works while using his encounters with diverse cultures and local experiences while living abroad as a process. After returning to Japan, he has been presenting his works in various forms on the theme of awareness and ideas born in the local area, including projects utilizing cultural heritage facilities and vacant houses.
